Volunteering in CUHK Jockey Club Children Eye Care Programme
CUHK Jockey Club Children Eye Care Programme funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charties Trust has been launched. It aims to enhance the public’s awareness of eye care of children and promote eye health by providing P.1-P.3 30000 students with comprehensive eye examination and teaching their parents knowledge of eye diseases in children carried out by specialists.
Serving as Children Eye Care Ambassadors, a number of selected S.4 and S.5 students took part in this programme. They attended training courses on children eye care including technical skills in performing eye care investigations before they assisted with various types of eye examinations at the centre during two days of service.
Through the programme, besides gaining basic eye care knowledge and skills of eye examination, participating students had the opportunities to mutual interact with medical professionals including doctors, medical students and nursing students. They also learnt how to care for the young kids and communicate with them effectively. It was such a valuable and rewarding experience.
